The IIS offers a range of interdisciplinary Honours modules for students who want to get more out of their degree programme. These modules are open to students from the UvA, the Amsterdam University College (AUC) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Below you can find all Honours modules taught in the second semester of the academic year 2022-23. Note: course offer will be complete by the end of November.

What are the major innovations of Einstein's science? What was his political involvement in the key developments in the societies that he was a member of? [February - May] -
The City on Two Wheels (6 EC)
What are the sociological effects of a cycling and mobility culture? How can we apply Design Thinking to the urban streetscape? [Febr - May] -
The Next Great/Small Transformation (6 ECTS)
Our world is ridden with urgent, but daunting transition challenges. Uncertainty about the direction of change, and resistance to change are ubiquitous. How to move forward? [February - May] -
Urban Mental Health (6 EC)

Wicked Challenges in Health (6 ECTS)
How can we solve the complex and multifactorial challenges in health, present at the interspace or overlap of various professions, institutions and/or societal domains? [February - May] -
Zero Waste: Amsterdam Circular in 2050 (6 EC)
How can we realise the sustainability ambitions of the city of Amsterdam? How can more biobased materials be used in buildings? How to advance the closed-loop use of plastics? [Febr - May] -
How Tech is Sustainability (6 EC)
What is the role of technology and what can it provide to help build a sustainable society? How far can a sustainable society go and under which circumstances is technology a necessary part? [April - July] -
Complexity: Can it be simplified? (6 ECTS)
After developing a common language to consolidate and communicate complex concepts, you will learn to quantify them and build a simple but complex system yourself. [April- May] -
Negotiation Frameworks for Building Better Social Bridges (6 ECTS)
This course is intended to equip you with an understanding of the strategies and psychology that underlie effective negotiation. [April - June] -
My Imaginary Self (6 ECTS)
Wander through film and photographs, and, through non-linguistic means, reflect on who you are as a person and young academic. It's not the end goal that counts, but the journey towards it. [Febr - May] -
