Vote for a new interdisciplinary elective course

Out of 36 submitted ideas for the Create a Course Challenge Special Edition: Sustainability, 10 ideas have been selected. Cast your vote and help decide which ideas should continue in the race to become a new, interdisciplinary elective course at the UvA. The five ideas with the most votes will proceed to the grand finale on 20 May. Make sure to submit your vote and help determine which course will be taught as an interdisciplinary elective at the UvA next year!

Out of 36 submitted ideas for a new course, the programme committee of the Create a Course Challenge has selected the top 10, based on their degree of interdisciplinarity, social relevance and creativity. They also considered the way the course content is organised, and whether innovative work and assessment forms are used. 

The top 10 of 2021 (in alphabetical order):

  4. Sustainable concerns in the healthcare system (in Dutch)

  7. Rethinking the World: From Economic Impact to Impact Economy

  8. Sustainability Deconstructed: Inequalities and Solutions

  9. Sustainability Marketing and Businesses in a World of Consumerism

  10. Sustainability, Policy and Communication

How do I vote?

Everyone with a UvA-ID is able to vote online for his or her top 3. By doing so, you assign one point to your number three, two points to your number two and three points to your number one idea. Please note that you can only cast your vote once. Voting is possible from 28 April until Tuesday 11 May, 12:00 PM (CET).

The grand finale

During the live-streamed finale on Thursday 20 May, the jury will decide which course idea will be rewarded with the realisation of the course. The winner can then immediately start working as a student assistant on the development of the course.

The jury is chaired by Karen Maex, Rector Magnificus of the UvA. The other members of the jury are Rick van der Ploeg, professor of Environmental Economics and Lucy Wenting, director of education at IIS. Rosa van der Laag, Future Planet Studies student and co-plaintiff in the climate case against Shell, is the student jury member.

 

Last year's winner

In November 2020, the Create a Course Challenge was won by Thijs Rebel and Matthijs de Gooijerm with their course Digital Warfare: The future of conflict and order in the twenty-first century.
