Thursday 24- Saturday 26 October

Below, you can download the program and timetable of the AIS Conference. The timetable gives an overview of each day, the program book presents all the details of the sessions and plenaries.

Conference Session Types

Panel discussion

Each panel discussion will consist of about four panel members (presenters) to explore common ground among papers. Each panel will last 60/90 minutes, unfolding in an interactive discussion format in which  each presenter will give a brief presentation followed by an in-depth Q & A discussion of at least 45 min involving  all presenters and audience members and led by a moderator.

A limited number of 60/90 minute workshops will be available during the conference. A workshop provides participants with a deep examination of a specific topic or question, led by a facilitator with extensive experience in the field. Workshops are highly interactive and give participants the chance to discuss in depth their own experiences and points of view, and bring new insights and tools.

Education Expert presentations

These sessions hosts a variety of experts who showcase  their experience within a certain theme. At the AIS 2019 we have three 'Education expert presentations'. One about  'Pedagogies for interdisciplinary understanding', one about 'Community Engaged Learning', and one specifically about 'Games and tools for teaching and learning' involving online tools and serious games. At the start of each session, the experts will give a short presentation or demonstration of their expertise. Following with a round of expert tables where they present their methodologies and founding theories. Or you can choose to participate in a learning activity or game demo. At the end of the session, we will jointly look for what makes these experiences unique, what are the underlying  design principles and wat are the possibilities to put this into practice in your own context.

Paper presentation in a themed session

The paper presentations (15 min.) will be grouped by topic or theme into sessions that include several related presentations. The presentations will provide the framework for the subsequent shared discussion, led by a moderator.

Themed Poster Presentations

Posters will be on exhibit on the day of scheduled presentation at the AIS conference and will be presented in "speedtalks" within a themed poster parcours, guided by a moderator.

The Solution Room

The solution room allows attendees to meet colleagues with similar interests and to engage in in-depth discussions. In this format you will have 60 minutes to speak with max. 8 colleagues to find a solution for your question, challenge or request. Lightly facilitated, groups can select one of several available collaborative tools such as Design thinking, Metaphoric Thinking, Brainwriting, or the Walt Disney Strategy.

Expo or Performance

The Expo or exhibition will showcase elements of best practices and projects in interdisciplinary research and education. Aside from an exhibition we offer a couple of performances that can be seen at CREA, the UvA's creative  open (student) space with a theatre floor, next to the conference location. More details about which performances or projects are on display will follow.
