Advice, guidance and experimentation

The IIS has more than 20 years of experience in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary education and is a centre for knowledge sharing and advice. We assist educational developers and curriculum leaders in the areas of organisational development, vision development, educational development and curriculum development. The added value of the IIS lies in the inspiring interaction between its tasks, allowing it to offer advice, development and implementation. This continuously leads to innovative interdisciplinary educational activities. An interdisciplinary study programme, track or minor can give a whole new dynamic to the faculty, study programme or institute.

Tailored advice

The IIS has extensive experience in the review and development of programmes and courses and the training or coaching of individuals and teams of teachers. Because everyone has different needs and preferences, we tailor our advisory processes.

The IIS tackles various issues from an operational to a strategic level, with the help of project management, market research, research and evaluation, advice, training, coaching, process management, or interim services. Whether it concerns the redesign and evaluation of the organisational structure for interdisciplinary education, the quality assurance of a study programme, or the development of didactic instruments.

Curriculum design

Our extensive experience in the review and development of study programmes and courses was bundled into a practical handbook for educators and educational developers, Designing Interdisciplinary Education. The methods, best practices and theoretical underpinnings in this handbook aim to contribute to the creation of a successful and engaging interdisciplinary learning experience within academic education. Another handbook within the same series, called Interdisciplinary Learning Activities, also contains many practical and directly applicable teaching methods for teachers who are looking for the right educational activities to familiarise students with interdisciplinary thinking, learning and collaboration.

In addition to these publications, the IIS also offers advice, training and workshops for teachers and educational developers on these working methods and methodologies.
