For the interdisciplinary honours course "Mass extinction", students were instructed to process the information they had received in this course in a podcast. The intention was that intensive use was also made of the experts who came to visit. With the support of a UvA Grassroots grant, teacher Joris Buis was able to experiment with this form of assessment. This resulted in a series of podcast episodes that can all be heard on Soundcloud.

In addition to a written individual assignment, the students worked together on the podcast episodes. Guest teacher and expert in the field of podcast making, Julie Blussé gave an extensive podcast workshop. In addition, the students were supported in editing the episodes by a professional. For the podcast they had to think carefully before the recordings about the story they wanted to tell and the questions they wanted to ask themselves and the guest teachers.

The students indicated that the process of making a podcast is a fun way to study the material in a different way. Because they had to interview several experts, they came into contact with new and different perspectives. In assessing the podcast as a test form, teacher Joris Buis paid particular attention to the process and the content. He assumed that starting radio makers could not yet make a successful report. Nothing could be further from the truth, in a short time the students delivered a fascinating podcast series.

The podcast is only available in Dutch (sorry!)
