The IIS elective Biotechnologie: van medicijn tot Frankenstein, winner Create a Course Challenge 2018, is approaching the final phase. During this course students, with different study backgrounds, worked together in groups on interactive workshops they will organise on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 January in de Waag. Challenging issues from the field of biotechnology will be discussed and everyone is welcome to register.

The winning group of the Create a Course Challenge 2018 consisted of Julie Maas (International Lifestyle Studies), Nils Boonstra (Beta-range), Ida van Koolwijk (Sociology) and Tijmen Kuyper (Social Geography). Together with the educational developers of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies, they started to create the their course. There has been collaboration with the Waag Technology & Society and the final senior lecturer of the Biotechnology course is also associated with this group. The creators of the course want to invite people to be properly informed about the subject and not to be afraid of all the developments. These workshops are the end product of the students who have followed the course.

On Wednesday 22 January you can participate in experiments in the field of xenotransplantation and think about genetically modified vegetables and cultured meat. On Thursday 23 January you can learn how to produce health data and think about apps for brain stimulation.
