Are you a UvA student with a drive for innovation? Which course is really missing from the UvA curriculum? Join the Create a Course Challenge 2025! The best idea will be developed into an elective course for all UvA students.

Renew UvA education with your idea!

The Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS) organises the UvA Create a Course Challenge every year. It’s all about your ideas for better education: which themes deserve a place in the curriculum? Which teaching methods work best? All UvA students can apply with an idea for a course. Students can also apply in pairs.

How does it work?

The Create a Course Challenge consists of four rounds:

  • Idea deadline (October 7, 23:59): Submit your first concept of max 150 words.

  • Further development (until October 29, 23:59): Work out your idea further with a plan of action that you’ll receive by email.

  • Voting round (November 6–13, 13:00): Our curriculum experts select the ten best submissions. Afterwards, UvA students and staff can vote for their favorite.

  • Final (November 25, 17:00–19:00, REC E: Room for Discussion): The five most popular ideas are pitched live. A jury will choose one winner.

What do you win?

The winning idea will be developed into a real course together with the student and the IIS. The student (or students) will be hired to co-develop and teach the course alongside IIS professionals. Next academic year, it will be offered as an IIS elective to all UvA students.
