Annemarie van Oosten is an Assistant Professor Communication Science and researcher in the Amsterdam School of Communication Research, ASCoR, at the University of Amsterdam. From 2003 until 2009 she studied child & youth psychology (BA, 2007, cum laude) and social- and health psychology (research master, 2009, cum laude) at Utrecht University. She received her PhD in 2015 at the department of Communication Science, at the University of Amsterdam.
Annemarie is currently a senior researcher on a large-scale research project commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (main applicant Jessica Priotrowski), with the aim of developing and implementing a national monitor of the digital competence of Dutch people aged 10 and over. In addition, she is investigating the role of social media and digital technology in relation to the sexual and gender development of young people, as well as the resilience of young people to stereotypical or biased sexual messages in the media. She is also a member of the Wetenschappelijke Raad Mediawijsheid (Scientific Council for Media Literacy).
As an assistant professor, she is involved in the College and Graduate School of Communication, for instance as one of the main lecturers in the Introduction to Communication Science BA course, and a co-coördinator and lecturer in the MA Specialization Seminar Developing Media Entertainment. In the latter seminar, she has coached students in the “Company Meets Student” consultancy projects since 2018. As such she has helped students to develop media products for companies using Design Thinking.
