For many years, Lucy has been committed to developing innovative courses and educational programmes that have gained national and international recognition. Thanks to her vision, tenacity and inclusive leadership, interdisciplinary education has become an important and enduring part of the UvA’s educational profile, one that is aligned with the societal challenges of our time.

Her enthusiasm has led to university-wide and structural changes. The innovative teaching practices she initiated have been implemented across various degree programmes, minors, honours modules and optional modules. Of particular note is her contribution to the development of educational leadership, through which she made a fundamental contribution to the positioning and recognition of the teaching profession within the university. She also served selflessly as chair of various committees and steering groups, and is praised as a warm and people-oriented leader. 

Alongside Lucy, Robin van Schijndel, the driving force behind the new University Library; Siri Boe-Lillegraven, initiator of diversity programmes; and Ton Prosec, responsible for a safe campus, were also presented with a Honorary Medaillon. They received the Medal in recognition of their extraordinary dedication and service to the university.
