Are you a lecturer or study advisor who wants to support students in their personal and professional development? Are you an educational developer or policymaker with an interest in the social-emotional or ethical dimensions of education? Or are you simply curious about how you can incorporate affective learning into your teaching? Then sign up for the SIG Affective Learning!

Following a successful kick-off on 1 December 2025, you can still sign up for the SIG. The next session will take place on 9 February and is open to all UvA staff.

During this meeting, the focus will be on experiencing affective learning and exploring how you can apply this in your own educational context. We will take a closer look at the Transition Makers Toolbox and, under the guidance of Rosanne van Wieringen, do an imagination exercise similar to the one she uses in the Change Making course. Finally, we will reflect on the possibility of using the tools and experiences in your own work practice.

 Affective learning

The university is becoming increasingly central to society. This calls for education that goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge. That is why affective learning is gaining importance in university education. Affective learning focuses on the development of students' attitudes, values, emotions and motivation. It is about personal growth, engagement and the ability to contribute to an inclusive and just society.
