The Affective Learning Grant supports UvA lecturers in improving and/or developing education that contributes to a better balance between cognitive and affective learning. The emphasis is on the development of students’ attitudes, values, emotions and motivation. It concerns personal growth, engagement, and the ability to contribute to an inclusive and just society. Do you have an innovative idea to structurally integrate affective learning into your teaching? And would you like to experiment with this and further develop it? Then apply for the Affective Learning Grant and have the chance to become part of the broader Empowered Minds initiative at the UvA.

We highly value innovative proposals. Within this initiative, we are looking for proposals that relate to, for example:

  • Course content: how can education be designed so that, besides knowledge, the personal values of students are also addressed?
  • Assessment and feedback: how can assessment and feedback be used in a meaningful way to make affective learning goals visible?
  • Interaction between teacher and student: how can the relationship and dialogue between teacher and students contribute to reflection on their values and attitudes?
  • Learning activities: what new formats and learning activities can be designed that allow students to actively experience what affective learning entails?

The Affective Learning Grant is a collaboration between the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies and the Teaching & Learning Centre Central (TLC-Central) and is part of the Comenius Leadership project Empowered Minds.
