  • Profile

I am an interdisciplinary lecturer and architectural historian, specialising in ‘little big histories’, which are studies that connect specific elements of the world around us to interacting long-term geological, biological, and cultural processes. Most notably, I study little big histories of buildings and their role in society. I have published several articles and book chapters on this approach and recently completed a book on the little big history of Tiananmen, forthcoming with Brepols. I bring this perspective into the classroom through courses and projects that invite students to analyse their environment through the lens of big history. Many of these courses result in creative outputs, ranging from walking tours to artistic projects, and are grounded in a design mindset that supports open-ended, exploratory learning, reflecting my background in both education and architecture.
