Over the last couple of decades, the digitalization of our society has led to remarkable changes in the way we operate within the university. Now, with the large-scale introduction of generative AI, the educational landscape is bound to change even more drastically.
In fact, it already has changed significantly and this process is continuing ever more rapidly. Up until now, the university has prohibited students to use generative AI. But this position is untenable; it is bound to get used in our academic education – not only by students but also by the teachers.
In this course, we will investigate what will change in student's learning paths when generative AI is allowed to be used in the learning process. How will it affect our vision on education, and to what changes will it lead in our theories of how learning takes place?
Jointly we’ll explore how academic education will (need to) look like in the near future. How will students learn when they all use AI to make their assignments? What is needed when we move from pedagogy to pedAIgogy? What kind of learning objectives do we need to formulate? What kind of assessment is required to make any kind of meaningful learning possible? What kind of attitude do learners need to employ if most if not all answers to our knowledge questions can simply be generated by consulting the bot? And what kind of changes does this demand from the side of the teacher? By addressing these questions together, we aim to inspire a well-wrought transformation from education to AI(-enhanced) education.
