In this Arts-Based Research (ABR) course, where traditional boundaries are challenged, you will rethink research and tackle complex issues through creativity.
In this course, you'll learn how to combine artistic methods—like photography, sound, creative writing, artistic interventions, and drawing—with academic research. Unlike conventional approaches, ABR uses art as a tool for discovery, offering deeper insights and more human-centered solutions to societal challenges. By engaging with verbal and non-verbal, immersive experiences, you’ll connect with "the other" and spark curiosity about those who may seem distant or unfamiliar.
From day one, you'll explore various creative methods, immediately experimenting and producing your own works to connect with others, inspire new perspectives and create meaningful engagement. Through arts-based reflection, you’ll refine your processes, learning how art communicates emotions and fosters empathy in ways with- and without words.
By the end of the course, you’ll develop a personal arts-based research project, presenting your findings in a final showcase that fosters real connections across divides. This course equips you with unique tools to explore societal issues, expand your imagination, and integrate creative research into your broader academic journey.
